A Christmas Poem for 2023:

I guess that it’s time to sit down and write

About what made 2023 a delight.

Ria came from Taiwan, and Alvaro from Spain.

Our trip to Orcas Island was pretty insane.

Dauphin Island in May kicked off a fun summer.

Weekends at the lake are never a bummer. 

Justin bought and sold cars on the side just for fun. 

Before work in the morning he goes for a run. 

Wake surfing, Tough Mudder, and pickleball skills.

Lumberjacking and fixing bad teeth with his drills.

Aaron Watson, Dierks Bentley, Train, Metallica

Concerts were more fun than reading Britannica.

Bobbi started to learn how to play the banjo.

On stage, she played Milady in a really fun show!

A weekend with Justin to Florida in spring

Disney and drag races are kind of their thing.

A trip with her sisters to Georgia she took,

When the cat’s tail fell off, she added a hook. 

Brock studied hard back at BYU.

Pre-dental classes aren’t easy, it’s true. 

Moving pianos, A-I art, wedding videography

Are some of the things that he does for money. 

He’s dating a girl that he likes a lot. 

If things go well, we hope that they….keep dating. 🥰

Austin’s had quite the first year on his mission. 

Mexico is hot, and he never goes fishin’

Dengue fever and Satan tried to take him down.

But the Spirit of God put him back on the town. 

Mayan ruins are awesome to see on P-day.

His work is to serve and to teach and to pray. 

Brandon, too, has spent this year serving the Lord.

Living in El Salvador, he never gets bored.

His shoes are worn through, his toenails ingrown,

A small price to pay for the seeds he has sown.

He wants nothing more than to serve and to teach.

Bearing witness of truth is his message to preach. 

Eden’s a junior in high school. Wait, what?

At sixteen, she drives without hitting a rut. (But she did hit Tom’s truck)

Two trips to Utah and one to D.C. 

To hang out with school friends that she loves to see.

Secretary at church, damsel on the stage,

Next week, she’ll start working at Chick-fil-A. (To pay for Tom’s truck)

Kade’s in the 8th grade, he plays bass guitar. 

On stage and back stage, he is quite the star.

Not old enough for seminary, but he goes anyway.

Up early on weekends, Duolingo everyday.

He went to Virginia and made some new friends.

Now he can hardly wait to see them all again.

Lars needs a haircut, but don’t tell him so.

He plays basketball and he builds with Legos.

A dwarf in The Hobbit, he wore a fake beard,

His laugh is contagious, and he sometimes smells weird.

He turned nine last month and has lots of good friends.

With this boy around, the fun never ends! 

This poem was long, this year was long too.

We are so very glad to have friends like you. 

This season of giving and friendship and love

Gives us reason to pause and thank God up above

For sending his Son as a babe in the stall

To love us and save us and help us stand tall.
