Just days after Austin and Brandon's second birthday, the boys were taking turns jumping off the fireplace onto a giant bean bag. They had a working system down, taking turns jumping off the hearth onto the beanbag, crawling off the beanbag, running around, climbing back on the hearth and repeating over and over. At some point, one of the twins decided to change the game, and instead of crawling off the bag and climbing onto the hearth, he jumped back onto the bag, as the other twin jumped off the hearth. This resulted in a head-to-eye collision, and Brandon got it in the eye. The result: Brandon's first shiner.
Then, this past Friday, just before bedtime, Austin decided to test the springs on Mom and Dad's bed. He was jump, jump, jumping away, and before long, he jumped too high and too far, and landed hard on the floor! A few hours and x-rays later revealed a bone fracture just above the left elbow. After what felt like a very long night at the hospital, Austin had to have surgery to place two small pins in the bone to hold it in place. He now sports a fashionable, green cast and blue sling. He doesn't seem to notice that his arm is broken, and is learning quickly how to wield his new armor as an improved weapon of mass destruction.
(After Justin left for the ER with Austin, Brock asked where they were going and I told him that Austin had hurt his arm, so they were going to get it fixed. Brock asked, "Austin broke his arm?" I told him yes. Then, with an alarmed expression, Brock exclaimed, "Did his arm fall off?!" It was really cute.)
