Spring Break 2011

Last week was spring break. Fortunately, Justin's sister, her family, and their Aunt, Uncle & cousins from Texas also had spring break last week, and decided to come out for a visit, so we had plenty of help keeping the kids entertained all day everyday while they were out of school.

It looked like it was going to be a fun, relaxing week for everyone, and then we woke up Monday morning to...snow? It fell and fell and fell all day long. I had to un-store the snow pants, boots & gloves that I had prematurely packed away. The kitchen became a muddy, wet, mess, and instead of throwing hot dogs on the grill as we had hoped, Justin was condemned to one more day of hauling wood for the fireplace.


Tuesday was cold and slushy. We tried to go to a movie, but because of "technical difficulties" at the theater, we settled for playing at the mall's indoor play area instead.

Wednesday, the sun came out, and we took advantage of the beautiful weather by going downtown to the Governor's Mansion. There, Aunt Allison served as the docent tour director, and gave us a brief history of the beautiful, historic building. Afterwards, we ate a picnic lunch and met Justin on his lunch break at Central Dairy for ice cream! Yum-diddly-umptious!!!





Thursday, St. Patrick's Day, the kids and I went swimming at the YMCA. We had a tough time finding a way to wear green with our swim suits, but luckily no one got pinched. Afterward, we left the kids at home with Justin's cousins to babysit while the moms & dads went for a motorcycle ride out to Hermann for dinner. It was a beautiful day to ride! That night, we paddled the boats around the lake, built a campfire and made s'mores. Finally! Spring is in the air!!!

Friday, we were content to stay home and enjoy the spring weather. The kids attempted to fly kites, rode bikes, paddled around the lake, and played with cousins. I took a nap. It was the perfect day. For dinner, we drove out to Charlie's for the best homestyle buffet dinner in the midwest, and ate until we couldn't eat anymore. Such amazingly good food. Yum.

Saturday morning, we said goodbye to our Texas family. That afternoon, we planned on riding bikes on the Katy Trail to Claysville for dinner. We got a few miles down the trail, however, and felt some raindrops and decided to turn around before we got caught in a downpour. We settled for Papa Murphy's pizza at Grandma's.



Today, the sun is shining, it's 75 degrees, the kids are back in school, and I'm playing catchup on blogging, laundry & housework. I think I might ditch it all though, and go enjoy the gorgeous weather while it lasts! Happy March, everybody!!!
