Lucky 2013

We've had lots of luck in lucky 2013.  Here are some of the highlights:

January:

  • Justin and Bobbi were lucky to make a spontaneous weekend getaway to Miami, Florida...just the two of them.
  • Brock, Austin & Brandon were lucky to have their very own donut eating contest (Brock's record stands at 10 donuts in 13 minutes).
February:
  • Our family was lucky to take a trip to San Antonio, Texas.  While there, we watched Shamu at Sea World, ate queso-burgers at Biff-Busby's and Valentine heart pancakes at the Chappell's.  We swam in the Bandera river, played tag at Hemisfair Park, visited the San Jose Mission and Witte Museum, and were lucky that only two of our iPads were stolen out of our Suburban.
  • Back at home, we were lucky to experience a full day without electricity, making pancakes on the wood stove, melting snow to wash dishes, and carrying pond water to flush the toilet.
March:
  • Justin and Bobbi were lucky to run the Gladiator 7-mile obstacle course mud run, followed by lunch with Lambert's throwed rolls.
  • Justin was lucky to start taking flying lessons and enjoy some awesome campfires, fishing, motorcycle riding & starburst jellybeans with his boys & scouts.
  • Bobbi was lucky to start potty training Kade.
April:
  • Justin was lucky to shoot an otter...and sell his GTR...and attend a St. Louis Cardinals baseball game with the boys.
  • Bobbi was lucky to attend Time Out for Women, eat lots of chocolate lasagna and butcher her very last rooster... ever.
  • The kids were lucky to participate in their first science fair.

  • Brock, Austin & Brandon were lucky to play spring soccer at the YMCA...the rest of us were lucky to watch.
May:
  • Justin was lucky to spend a weekend in Vegas with some dental school buddies...after being stranded for one very long night at the Dallas airport.

June:
  • Our family was lucky to take a trip to see Justin's Uncle Paul & Aunt Nancy in Virginia.  While there, we visited Bobbi's Aunt Pat and Murane cousins, the Smithsonian Museums, The National Mall & Monuments, Historic Williamsburg, and Virginia Beach.

  • Justin was lucky not to be killed by the stray pitbull that Bobbi adopted while he was at scout camp.

July:
  • We were lucky to have visits from many friends and family!
  • We were lucky to host a foreign exchange student from Spain.
  • We were lucky the foreign exchange program only lasted five weeks.
  • We were lucky we didn't lose any children while at the St. Louis City Museum, Six Flags, Bridal Cave, Clifty Creek, Nauvoo, IL or the Katy Trail.

August:
  • Justin and Bobbi were lucky to celebrate their 13th wedding anniversary at the county fair demolition derby.
  • Bobbi, Austin, Brandon, Eden & Kade were lucky to take a road trip to Utah to see family, attend cousin Porter's wedding in Idaho, and spend a day at Yellowstone National Park while Justin and Brock stayed home and ate m&m's for breakfast, ice cream for lunch, mega stuff oreos and root beer milk for dinner every night.
  • Justin and Bobbi were lucky to spend a long weekend in Cancun, Mexico, lying in hammocks by the beach and visiting Chichen Itza Mayan temple ruins.
  • Bobbi was lucky not to break her neck while mountain biking with Justin at Binder Lake.
September:
  • Bobbi and the kids were lucky to experience a little Shakespeare in the Park and a V.I.P. tour of the Missouri State Capitol building, including the whisper dome, House and Senate chambers.

  • Brock, Austin and Brandon were lucky to take tennis lessons at the YMCA.
  • We were all lucky to have a dentist in the family after all of the candy apples, popcorn balls and Halloween candy we consumed in October.

  • Bobbi and the kids were lucky to take a field trip through the back rooms of the local grocery store and do some ice skating.

  • Our family was lucky to host the Jefferson City Home Educators Fall Party at our house, complete with fire pit and a tractor hay ride driven by Grandpa Johnson.
  • Bobbi and the kids were lucky to visit the Petrified forest in Arizona and Bobbi's old stomping grounds in Barstow, California.
  • After learning about Grandpa Morgan's cancer diagnosis, we were lucky to spend Thanksgiving in California with him and many family members, saying goodbye and celebrating the life we share as a family.
December:
  • We were lucky to decorate Justin's office with musical Christmas lights for the second year in a row, visit our very favorite Santa at Bass Pro Shop, and eat lots of Grandma Johnson's delicious sugar cookies.
  • We were lucky that all we lost were some bikes and a four wheeler in the carport fire that started from some hot fireplace embers.
  • Brock, Austin and Brandon were lucky to perform in their first River City Choir Christmas concert.
  • Brock was lucky to recover from a scary fainting spell he had at a homeschool Christmas party.
  • Our family was lucky to attend Grandpa Morgan's funeral, a beautiful tribute to his life, and a wonderful gathering of family and friends.
  • Bobbi and the kids were lucky to spend a ridiculously crowded day at Disneyland two days before Christmas.
  • Justin and Bobbi were lucky to find an open Walgreens on Christmas eve where they could buy last minute Christmas presents for the kids after Justin's suitcase of gifts was lost by the airline on his way to meet the family in Utah.
  • Our family was lucky to spend Christmas in a beautiful rustic cabin at Red Ledges Resort in Heber, Utah, and return home safely to Missouri in time for new year's.

We are lucky enough to know we are not just lucky.  We are truly blessed and so thankful for all that our Father in Heaven has provided for us in 2013 and always!
