My Little Tree-Hugger

Brock's kindergarten class has spent the past few months preparing a musical program celebrating Earth Day. Brock has been coming home from school every day singing songs like "What do you do with a global warmer," which has caused some heated debates with his father, who is firm in his belief that global warming is a normal part of the earth's climate changing cycle and nothing to be alarmed about. Nevertheless, Brock has been extra careful to turn off lights when he leaves a room and conserve water while brushing his teeth. One day, I was cleaning the kitchen and dropped something in the trash can and Brock said to me pleadingly, "Mom, please tell me you're not going to take the trash out to the garbage truck. I'm afraid that it will get into the water that's underground and make us all sick. We need to recycle EVERYTHING." I then tried to explain to him that not all trash could be recycled and we are already recycling all of the trash that we can, but there are just some things that can't be re-made into something else.

Thursday evening, we were finally able to see the fabulous program that has helped our son become so aware of his impact on the environment. We got there 45 minutes early to make sure we got seats right up front. Brock was fun to watch. He seriously did not smile the entire program because he was concentrating so hard on the actions to the songs. I don't think he remembered any of the words to the songs...but he got all of the actions right!! I did manage to get him to smile for a photo before the program started though.





In the entryway of the school, there were pictures by all of the kindergartners hanging on the wall. Here is a photo of Brock next to his masterpiece.
